Summary
The Electric Upright Bass has
undergone a renaissance in the last few years: Who wants to drag
their Contrabass around on holiday or a short trip? And who wants
to make all kinds of noise while practicing at the expense of
their neighbors? But remember: The average price of $2500 is WAY
too much for a second instrument, especially when there have been
more reasonable and cheaper alternatives until the 1980s.
I didn't need a real high tech Electric Upright Bass in addition
to my Contrabass, so I built my own electric upright bass for a
material cost of about $200 and it can even be disassembled for
carting around. The results, published in SOLO and BASSPROFESSOR,
generated a lot of interest from bass players. I'd be happy to
send you copies of building plans along with instructions and
pictures if you are interested.
So,... if you're interested send me an e-mail. I'm looking
forward hearing from you.
